I learnt to ski as an adult and loved it from the first moment. I spent many years treasuring the annual ski holiday, usually during the hellishly busy half term weeks, and we invariably stayed in catered chalets. Oh how I suffered from severe job envy (well I was working as an accountant at the time!) as I watched the chalet staff preparing our meals, chatting with us, joining us for dinner, cleaning and clearing up – yes even that!
As my daughters were growing up I was secretly preparing myself for my long awaited chance to work in the Alps. I took many and varied cookery courses, entertained friends and family at home in the UK and, from 2008, in our chalet in St Martin de Belleville.
Then last year I took the plunge and signed up to work as a Chalet Chef with a premium ski company for the season. Of course it had its tough moments, but I absolutely loved it: the contact with guests; being busy preparing my menus and the great comments I received. I now knew that I was ready to make my dream into reality. So here I am, together with my lovely husband Mike, looking forward to welcoming guests into our own chalet and we can’t wait!
